FO: Pakistan Invited to Participate in US-Iran Diplomatic Talks
Pakistan has been invited to take part in upcoming talks between Iran and the United States aimed at easing tensions between the two countries, the Foreign Office (FO) confirmed on Tuesday.
“Pakistan has received the invitation for the upcoming talks between Iran and the United States,” FO Spokesperson Tahir Andrabi said, responding to a query.
Diplomatic sources emphasized that Pakistan’s participation is considered crucial for de-escalation, as Islamabad has been quietly facilitating communication between the two sides. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar is expected to represent Pakistan at the meeting.
The talks are likely to be held in Turkiye on Friday, according to an Arab official who spoke on condition of anonymity, highlighting the sensitivity of the discussions.
US media outlet Axios reported that Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi is expected to meet with US envoy Steve Witkoff in Istanbul to discuss a possible deal on Iran’s nuclear program. The primary goal of the talks is to prevent conflict and reduce tensions between the two nations.
Other regional powers have reportedly been invited to join the discussions at the foreign ministers’ level, including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Egypt, Oman, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The format of the meetings remains unclear, but the “main meeting” is scheduled for Friday, with officials stressing the importance of initiating dialogue to avoid escalation.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian confirmed that he has instructed FM Araghchi to pursue “fair and equitable negotiations” in an environment free from threats and unreasonable expectations, emphasizing that the talks will be conducted within Iran’s national interests.
US President Donald Trump has expressed hope that Washington will reach an agreement with Iran, but warned that “bad things would happen” if no deal is concluded.
In a recent interview, Araghchi said, “President Trump said no nuclear weapons, and we fully agree. That could be a very good deal.” He added that Iran expects sanctions to be lifted in return.
The upcoming talks mark a significant step in regional diplomacy, with Pakistan’s role as a facilitator reflecting its longstanding effort to mediate between the United States and Iran.
